Cycling
The Camel Trail
is virtually completely flat and runs through Wadebridge and Bodmin to Wenford Bridge in one
direction and Padstow in the other. It is suitable for anyone who can balance on a 2 wheeler or if you can't they will hire you a 3 wheeler. No need to be athletic or fit. It is a great day out.
There are pubs in Padstow and Wadebridge and a pub in Bodmin by the trail.
You can also cycle from the top end of the trail to the pub in Blisland, although it's quite an uphill pull.
There is also a tea shop and direct access to the Camel Valley Vineyard.
Bike hire is available in Bodmin, Wadebridge and Padstow.
Right from your cottage door you can walk down to the Camel Trail and into Wadebridge, or to the Camel Valley Vineyard where you can sample wines
and have a picnic. Below are some other suggested itineraries:
The Camel Trail 1
Park at Grogley Halt and walk to the vineyard or Boscarne tea shop. Highly recommended and not too strenuous.
The Camel Trail 2
Park at Lower Halwyn and walk into Padstow along the estuary. Flat, not too far and not too strenuous.
The Coast Path 1
You can walk from Bedruthan Steps to Padstow, which is a long walk, or break it into sections.
There is a pub half way at Harlyn Bay.
The Coast Path 2
A most fabulous walk is from Polzeath to Port Isaac. You can break it up into stages.
The main walk, which involves some really steep climbs up vertiginous steps takes about 4.5 hours for a good walker.
There are no pubs or any other facilities on the way. It is totally wild, but it is a brilliant walk with fantastic views.
Bodmin Moor
A popular walk is to park in the Rough Tor car park and climb up Rough Tor. Not particularly long but you can extend it if you want.
Fantastic views from Rough Tor over the whole of Cornwall.
Rock/Trebetherick
A favourite walk of ours. You can walk to Wadebridge and along the river estuary into Padstow.
Have lunch in Padstow and after lunch take the ferry to Rock and walk along the beach to
Daymer Bay or explore Rock (that won't take long) and have tea or a pint.
The Saints Way
An ancient 27 mile walking trail from Padstow on the north coast to Fowey on the south coast.
